Program Overview

 

Where the Light Gets In: A Spiritual Journey Towards Wholeness and Resilience is an online two-year program for those seeking to deepen their spirituality by bringing their whole life to God in a community of practice.

 

For an additional fee, two accompanying programsTrauma and Spirituality and The Spirituality of Resistance – will be offered for interested participants to delve further into the core program material from these specific perspectives.

 

This program is presented from a Christian perspective, but those of all faiths (or none) are welcome.

Program Dates & Weekly Rhythm

Year One

 

September 15th, 2025 - May 18th, 2026

Monday Evenings / 5pm - 7pm Pacific Time

The first year will explore various contemplative, creative, and somatic practices including art, storytelling, Internal Family Systems, and The Compassion Practice.

Somatic & Contemplative Practices

Ground yourself through practices that connect body, mind, and spirit.

Creative Exploration

Express and uncover your inner life through art and storytelling.

Compassion & Inner Work

Cultivate compassion through Internal Family Systems and The Compassion Practice.

Year Two

 

September 14th, 2026 - May 24th, 2027

Monday Evenings / 4pm - 6pm Pacific Time

The second year will continue this work via a contemporary framing of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises offered in a group format.  

Deepening the Journey

Build on the foundational practices from year one through continued inner exploration and growth.

Ignatian & Spiritual Exercises

Engage with the Ignatian tradition in a spacious, contemporary, and reflective way.

Group Practices & Sacred Companionship 

Experience these exercises in the context of a supportive and contemplative community.

Registration for Where the Light Gets In is now open and remains open until one week before the program begins.
 
We are welcoming up to 15 participants for this intimate two-year journey.

Payment Options 

A non-refundable $300 deposit is required to reserve your spot in the program. This amount will be applied toward your total tuition.

Receive 10% off your tier if you pay in full by September 1st, 2025

2 Installments

 

You can pay your tuition in two installments each year
one at the start of the program and one mid-way through the year. 

Monthly

 

 Year One: Begin payments on September 1, 2025 and continues through May 1,  2026

 

Year Two: Begin payments September 1, 2026 and continue monthly through May 1, 2027, covering the second program year.

Meet the Faculty

Karri Backer 

Karri Backer is a spiritual director, therapist, and an Episcopal priest currently serving as Vicar at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Riverside.  She has spent several years exploring the intersections between faith, spirituality, and mental health and is especially drawn to spaces where she can support individuals in finding healing and wholeness in their lives.  Karri has training in Internal Family Systems, the Compassion Practice, and Ignatian spirituality, and applies a trauma-informed focus to these approaches.

 

Christine M. Ng

Rev. Dr. Christine Ng earned her D.Min. from Claremont School of Theology with an emphasis on the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, ecofeminist theology, and the Compassion Practice. Chris uses the Compassion Practice in her spiritual direction and spiritual direction supervision practice and has taught it to interns in the spiritual
direction formation programs she has led. Ordained in the United Church of Christ, she also co-pastors First United Church of Christ in Second Life, a fully authorized church of the UCC that exists only on the virtual reality platform of Second Life. In addition, she is an avid InterPlayer and has taught Tai Chi for more than 30 years. She lives in New Mexico with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, three grandchildren, and numerous furry, feathered, and scaled family members.
